From Volunteer to Inspiring Leader in ESOL Education
ulie joined ELSH in 2019 as a dedicated volunteer, quickly becoming a driving force in the delivery of ESOL and Talk English courses. Her commitment to supporting learners from diverse backgrounds helped hundreds improve their English and essential life skills.To enhance her expertise, ELSH fully funded Julie's TEFL qualification, enabling her to deliver high-quality, targeted instruction to some of Barnsley's most marginalised communities. Holding a BA (Hons) in Social Sciences, a Teaching Qualification, and TEFL certification, Julie worked alongside curriculum coordinators to design personalised, blended learning experiences that fostered confidence, resilience, and self-respect.As a paid staff member, she played a pivotal role in helping ELSH support 200+ learners annually and achieve a 75% learner progression rate into further education, employment, or training. She championed safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion across all programmes, leaving a lasting mark on ELSH's culture of excellence.Julie recently retired, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire trustees, staff, and learners alike.
